The Chicago Housing Authority continues to lead the way in changing the face of public housing. It is the largest and most ambitious public housing overhaul in the nation’s history. With the continued leadership and assistance of Mayor Richard M. Daley, we remain confident and excited about the aggressive, farsighted nature of the Plan for Transformation. We have touched a lot of lives: 9,400 senior housing projects are complete, we have helped more than 4,000 residents find jobs through our partnerships with city-wide agencies and non-profit organizations, nearly 2,500 units for families in scattered sites have been renovated and new ground has been broken on several mixed-income developments. Entering the ninth year of the Plan, we have made a lot of progress, but we still have work to do: we need to continue our efforts to secure support from the federal government. We need to continue to show businesses the benefits of investment in CHA neighborhoods. And we must continue to show leaseholders in CHA units that opportunities are available now and the choice is theirs. We must all come together - residents, staff, businesses, partners, developers and the City - to achieve our goal of integration, neighborhood revitalization and transformation by 2015. Sincerely,Lewis A. Jordan, Chief Executive Officer |
