CHA & Brinshore Announce New Buffett Place Development

Buffett Place, the future supportive and green housing development in Lakeview providing key services for individuals with mental health needs, at-risk of homelessness and disabilities was recently announced.

A total gut renovation of a vacant four-story hotel, formerly known as The Diplomat, will house 51 studio apartments. CHA is providing rental subsidy for all units of this supportive housing development through its Property Rental Assistance (PRA) program.

The ground floor retail will be occupied by Urban Meadows flower shop, which is owned and operated by Thresholds. Urban Meadows will employ several Buffet Place residents.

A 900-square-foot rooftop garden will be operated by the Chicago Botanic Gardens and Buffet Place residents will help plant and maintain the garden. Additionally, a green roof tray system with various sedums will cover most of the remainder of the roof surface and solar panels on the roof heats domestic hot water.
