LaShawn Cobb was named to the Chicago Housing Authority Board of Commissioners by Mayor Brandon Johnson in 2024.

An Assistant Teacher at the University of Chicago (Earl Shapiro Hall) since 2019, Commissioner Cobb is passionate about building strong relationships with children and families and establishing environments that allow for greater learning. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Commissioner Cobb worked as an Assistant Teacher at the Florence G. Heller Early Childhood Center.

She received her undergraduate degree in Business Fashion and her minor in Journalism at Columbia College in Chicago. She holds a master’s degree in Business Analysis from Grand Canyon University and is pursuing a Triple Endorsement Master of Science in Early Childhood at Erikson’s Education Licensure Program. Commissioner Cobb is also taking coding classes to become a licensed health and life insurance broker.

Commissioner Cobb serves on the Board of Specified Jurisdiction for St. Dorothy’s School and is a member of the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. She volunteers at her community church in its Bereavement Ministry.
