CHA Resident Filmmaker is fitted for a dress for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival

Three CHA students participating in DePaul’s “Become a Filmmaker” program got the chance of a lifetime in 2023 - traveling to the Cannes (France) Film Festival - thanks to the generosity of Chicago businesswoman Chaz Ebert, who funded the trip.

But before students Isis Gullette, Unique Moore and Christal Westmoreland walked the red carpet, they appeared on NBC5, were fitted for dresses by renowned Chicago designer Barbara Bates, and showed their short film, “I Am Not Your Token,” at the Springboard to Success (S2S) fundraising event.

“I really hope that when Black girls see us, they smile and see these kids going to France, being able to do things they probably didn’t think were possible,” Westmoreland said. “Especially coming from a low-income neighborhood. So it’s really refreshing to be a part of this journey.”
