Federal Funding Update

Protect Affordable Housing
Last month, Congress passed a Continuing Resolution that provides federal funding stability through the end of September. This measure maintains funding for public housing programs at FY24 levels, while also increasing funding for Housing Choices Vouchers and Project Based Rental Assistance.
While this resolution answers the immediate funding questions, significant uncertainty around the future remains. This includes federal staffing and funding levels, and the practical impacts of proposed policy changes on our work and on our residents.
Public housing authorities like CHA already do not receive enough resources to meet the demand for affordable housing, even as the need continues to grow. Our top priority remains ensuring stability for the 65,000+ low-income families who currently receive CHA housing assistance.
CHA is actively engaging in Washington, DC, to advocate for the resources and support we need to meet our mission. We will continue to advocate tirelessly to ensure that CHA-subsidized housing remains a source of stability, opportunity, and progress for thousands of families across Chicago.
