Preservation Success: Barbara Jean Wright Court Apartments
CHA and its partner Jonathan Rose Companies proudly celebrated the $86 million renovation of the 272-unit Barbara Jean Wright Court Apartments this month with a ribbon-cutting at the property on the Near West Side.
CHA will administer 164 tenant protection vouchers that were provided by the HUD. Eighty-two of those vouchers will be converted to long-term Project Based Vouchers, representing $32 million in guaranteed rental assistance for low-income families over the next 15 years.
“At CHA, we spend a lot of time talking about “what’s new” - and we have a lot of that, including 15 housing developments with more than 1,100 units that are under construction around the city. But just as important as building “what’s new” is investing in what’s already here - the preservation of affordable housing. That includes buildings like BJ Wright Apartments, that have been home to generations of Chicago families, but have also faced their share of challenges in recent years,” said CHA CEO Tracey Scott.
