Preservation Update: Major Renovation Project at Brooks Homes Gets Underway

For the first time in nearly 25 years, CHA is undertaking a major renovation project at Brooks Homes, part of the ABLA campus on the near west side. The renovation includes interior updates and upgrades in all 330 apartments, new roofs, new doors and windows, and new landscaping, sidewalks and streets.

First Residential Building at Ogden Commons Nears Completion

Construction is wrapping up on the first residential phase of Ogden Commons, located on the site of the former Lawndale Complex in the North Lawndale community. The four-story building includes 92 apartments - 37 CHA-subsidized, 46 affordable and nine market-rate. Work is expected to be completed this spring.

Laundry Improvements Make Life Better for CHA Seniors

Over the past twelve months, CHA has been making major improvements to laundry facilities across its senior portfolio. New commercial grade washers and dryers were added, as was new flooring, lighting and paint.

FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks Visits CHA Residents and Staff

Last week, FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks visited CHA residents and staff to hear more about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a federal program which offers discounted internet service to eligible households. In 2023, CHA held nearly 75 events to enroll families in the ACP. That outreach resulted in approximately 1,800 new households enrolling in the program.

Development Update: Roosevelt Square 3B

Last January, CHA joined Related Midwest and other partners for the groundbreaking of Roosevelt Square Phase 3B, a $172 million project that included the rehabilitation of 184 existing affordable apartments as well as the construction of 222 new apartments.

CHA Scholarship Put Therapist Jordan Henderson on the Right Track

The application period for the 2024-2025 CHA/Springboard to Success (S2S) Scholarship is now open. This year, 125 scholarships of $2,000 apiece are being offered. Any current CHA resident planning to enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2024 is eligible to apply.
