CHA joined Hispanic Housing Development Corporation and the City of Chicago Wednesday for a groundbreaking of 1237 California, a new, 40 unit, six story Humboldt Park property that will include 18 Project Based Vouchers.

CHA hosted more than 600 housing professionals from across the country at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Summer Symposium in Chicago earlier this month.

This month, 73 CHA residents graduated from LevelUp, the agency’s wealth-building program that helps residents achieve their goals, whether it be improving credit, going back to school or becoming homeowners.

On August 1, U.S. District Judge Marvin Aspen approved a jointly-proposed Amendment to the 2019 Settlement Agreement between the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) and Impact for Equity (IFE) in the landmark 1966 Gautreaux v. Chicago Housing Authority federal lawsuit.

CHA was proud to join our partners in the Humboldt Park community earlier this week to celebrate the opening of Nancy Franco Maldonado Paseo Boricua Arts Building. This distinctive building complements Paseo Boricua’s business and cultural district, which is the heart of Chicago’s Puerto Rican community.

Every year, CHA offers paid summer opportunities for residents ages 13-24 to provide early exposure to career and education pathways and opportunities that stem potential summer learning loss. 

CHA and Springboard to Success, CHA’s non-profit partner, hosted 200 incoming freshman who will be attending 60 schools locally and around the country at the annual Take Flight College Send-Off. This was the largest turnout in the event’s 14-year history.

Among the Take Flight participants was Lanya Scott, who got a full scholarship to Loyola University to study nursing. She was inspired by her grandmother, who she’d take to doctor’s appointments when she was a young girl of six years old. 

CHA leaders joined Mayor Johnson, The Habitat Company, Mount Sinai and the Illinois Housing Development Authority this month in North Lawndale to celebrate two Ogden Commons milestones: the grand opening of Phase A1 (92 units) and the groundbreaking of A2 (75 units).

Hundreds of property owners and industry professionals attended CHA’s 15th annual Owner Symposium last week. The Owner Symposium is an education and networking event designed to equip property owners, managers, realtors, brokers, investors and residential rental housing professionals with the timely tools and knowledge they need to strengthen communities and grow their business.
